Johnson George

On this latest edition of our Faculty Factory podcast we welcome Johnson George MBA, PMP, CAHIMS. Mr. George serves as Executive Director, Administration and Faculty Affairs at the University of Texas Health Science Center’s McGovern Medical School in Houston.

This episode starts with Mr. George discussing the career path that led him to a career in faculty affairs.

He came to the University of Texas after working with Kathy Pipitone and Patrick O. Smith at the University of Mississippi. (Speaking of these two, make sure to check out our previous episodes with his former colleagues.)

Mr. George came to academic medicine after a unique background in computer science. He started his career in the private sector and worked in information technology throughout the 1990s. Throughout his experience in the technology sector he built fundamental skills in program and project management. He later earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

He arrived at the University of Mississippi to lead their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software implementation. At this institution he fell in love with faculty affairs.

The GFA Family

As part of his work in faculty affairs and faculty development, Mr. George has really grown to appreciate the community aspect that the Group on Faculty Affairs (GFA) is all about.

“It’s a community that is strong, bonded together, and we are here to help each other,” he said.

Mr. George also chats about the inspiring leaders that he’s learned from through being a part of GFA.

I share these sentiments about GFA. I look at this support system as an extension of my family.

In this podcast he discusses meeting the needs of faculty through basic (yet often overlooked) qualities such as listening, thinking, and formulating a plan. There are many other worthwhile topics from today’s program that we discuss in this chat.
