About

Our Mission:

The mission of the Faculty Factory is to build and support a community of leaders in faculty development who share tools, resources, wisdom, and encouragement in service to our faculty members, schools, and institutions.

Our Vision:

The Faculty Factory will be a central hub for leaders in faculty development.

Who We Are

We are academic affairs/faculty development leaders in medical schools. We are managers, directors, program directors, assistant deans, associate deans, senior associate deans, vice provosts, provosts, and more.

Many of us hold faculty ranks in our schools of medicine. There are 172 U.S. Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)-accredited medical schools in the U.S. and Canada. We academic affairs/faculty development leaders serve nearly 179,000 full-time faculty members in the U.S.*

Our professional society, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Group on Faculty Affairs (GFA), has 600+ institutional representative members. The GFA has an annual professional development conference.

The Faculty Factory is sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine, Office of Faculty, and the Faculty Factory podcast is hosted by Kimberly A. Skarupski, PhD, MPH.

Dr. Skarupski is the Associate Dean for Faculty Development in the Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine. She is a sociologist and gerontologist by training and has been practicing faculty development for more than 14 years.
