Some previous Faculty Factory podcasts mentioned on this episode:
- Episode 127 – Grant Writing Habits and Hacks with Dionna W. Williams, PhD
- Episode 124 – “Competent Person Syndrome”
“Wellness is a buzzword that’s been coming up more and more, especially with Covid, but I think there are things people can do about it rather than just read articles,” Dr. Johansen said.
Did you know there is a difference between burnout and brokenness? Dr. Johansen explains the difference using a perfect car metaphor. She also explains why it is important for overworked faculty to be aware of the difference between burnout and brokenness.
Brokenness relates to things that are out of our control and brokenness will happen. It is vital to learn how to best deal with the inevitable periods of brokenness. The “attitude of gratitude” almost always helps.
“No matter how broken you are there is always something to be grateful for,” she said.
