Andrew Demidowich, MD, brings his enthusiasm to the Faculty Factory Podcast this week for another fantastic episode of the “Habits and Hacks” series.
He describes balancing professional responsibilities with his family life as he is married with two young children under the age of 3.
Dr. Demidowich serves as Chief of Inpatient Endocrinology with Howard County General Hospital and Assistant Professor with Johns Hopkins Medicine in Maryland.
The value of building habits and routines is an important theme in today’s episode. Dr. Demidowich’s effort to live a balanced and happy life starts each day with a routine.
“The first thing I do after waking up is 15 minutes of yoga,” he said. “I think exercising, stretching and getting your body loosened up and happy allows for your brain to get loosened up and happy. I find that incredibly useful and important.”
Dr. Demidowich has also built an effective habit for checking email. As he perfectly describes on the podcast, the amount of energy it takes to reply to emails instantaneously may not always be worth it. He offers up a solution for how to deal with this common workplace challenge.
“I answer emails three times a day and that’s it,” he told us.
