Here are some helpful resources for care coordination:
National Resources and Advice
- Eldercare Locator [A public service connecting you to services for older adults and their families.]
- Lil’ Labels [Non-iron, write-on clothing labels.]
- Some states will pay caregivers (i.e., family members/spouses) through Medicaid. If your loved one is not on Medicaid, their long-term care insurance may include a benefit for paying caregivers (ask for a list of benefits).
- For those who qualify, there are waivers or financial assistance for paying caregivers and long term care insurance could also be key for paying for caregiving and managing that process.
- Consider utilizing home rehabilitation services. When hiring a private duty caregiver, clearly define their specific tasks, distinguishing these from the roles of physical and occupational therapists. Always check insurance coverage to understand what services are included for home care and rehabilitation.
