We chat with Tina Tran, MD, this week on the Faculty Factory Podcast. Dr. Tran reflects on her career in academic medicine and the habits and hacks that have led to her success as an introverted leader.
Dr. Tran serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine with Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore.
She also holds a joint position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology with Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Tran is a shining example of how an introvert can parlay listening expertise into strong leadership skills.
“I would not consider myself a natural leader,” Dr. Tran told us during today’s podcast episode.
The importance of advocating for yourself is another key takeaway from listening to Dr. Tran speak.
“Surprisingly, all it takes is advocating for yourself, and saying you are ready, for people to open up opportunities,” she said.
Dr. Tran also discusses how she overcame her fears with public speaking. Not only does she share her own story of dealing with this common fear, but she also delivers practical advice for how faculty can build confidence when public speaking.
