Wendy Ward, PhD, ABPP, FAPA, once again joins us on the Faculty Factory Podcast to share some great tips and advice on better communicating with your mentor. She brings us ten things to ask your mentor.

This is a great discussion for those that are just establishing a mentor-mentee relationship, it should help get the conversation started.

Dr. Ward serves as Director of Interprofessional Faculty Development at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). She is also Associate Director of Professional Wellness, a clinical psychologist and Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UAMS.

I was super impressed by some of the conversation-starting tips that Dr. Ward leaves us with on today’s episode.

She starts the discussion by encouraging mentees to ask their mentor to tell them a story. It’s a timeless tactic in communications and a perfect way to get a conversation flowing. She recommends asking your mentor about a time they encountered a difficult situation and what they did to overcome it. Thinking about the leadership lessons you could uncover from the stories your mentor has to tell is a great way to start.

This is Dr. Ward’s fourth time joining our podcast. You can listen to her three other podcasts, here:
