All things “micro” and “mini” are being discussed on the Faculty Factory Podcast this week. In the context of today’s discussion, “micro” is simply another way of saying expedited, streamlined, and not requiring a massive amount of time.

Our guest is Alice Fornari, EdD, FAMEE, RDN, a friend of this podcast over the years, making her third appearance on the program. She serves as Vice President of Faculty Development with Northwell Health and Associate Dean with Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in New York.

In terms of micro, we’re discussing micro learning, micro teaching, and micro mentoring, along with how to deliver and track the effectiveness of these resources.

We also explore “usage vs learning” and how to track if these micro initiatives are actually effective in developing faculty. When it comes to delivery, Dr. Fornari has developed the Just in Time Teaching (JiTT) app, which is publicly available for free on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store worldwide.

The JiTT app was the main topic of conversation last time she joined our show, and you can revisit that episode here.

Seemingly, it wouldn’t be an all-encompassing interview in 2024 without discussing A.I.’s ramifications, which were also touched on at the end of today’s interview.

Of course, A.I. will have an impact on this effort to deliver effective and streamlined resources to our faculty, but the full extent is not yet understood, as we discussed at the end of the interview.
