Making International Connections with the Faculty Factory

Listen now:

Dr. Sen

This week on the Faculty Factory is an interview with Mithu Sen, MD, FRCPC, D’ABSM. (Make sure to listen to it via the podcast player directly above or on our podcast homepage.)

Dr. Sen has been the Acting Vice Dean of Faculty Affairs at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University in London, Ontario, Canada since October 2018. She is also Assistant Dean, Faculty Equity and Wellness at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.

We learned on today’s episode that Schulich is one of 17 medical schools in Canada.

This marks the first Faculty Factory podcast episode to take place with someone representing a Canadian institution. We look forward to having many more Canadian colleagues join us for interviews in the near future. We’d like to make this is a trend at the Faculty Factory.

Dr. Sen talks with me about the concept of the Body-Mind-Spirit framework and its importance in the wellness efforts for the faculty of her institution.

“Wellness really needs to be in context to what matters to that person,” she said on today’s podcast.

As you’ll hear in the episode, making this Body-Mind-Spirit framework contextual was an extremely important part of our discussion.

Mentorships

Mentorships are a constant theme of this podcast and I definitely had a lively discussion on this with Dr. Sen. As I said on the podcast there is no greater endorsement or validation of the work that we do than when we see the people who we’ve trained become successful.

To me it is the essence of self-actualization and it’s an affirmation for a job well done.

The Institutions Map

If you haven’t had a chance to see our interactive institutions map on this website please make sure to check it out! Ensuring that we included the Canadian institutions on this map was vital as we look to build community here at the Faculty Factory.

Having an international perspective on this podcast is hugely important and we applaud Dr. Sen for helping us bridge that gap in our first ever podcast to go north of the U.S. border!
