Listen now:
Jennifer Lee, MD, brings her wisdom, experiences, and insights to the Faculty Factory Podcast today in the latest “Habits and Hacks from Hopkins” episode. She also discusses the Women’s Empowerment and Leadership Initiative (WELI) she established within the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia.
With Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, Dr. Lee serves as Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine (ACCM) and Associate Vice-Chair for Faculty Affairs and Development in ACCM in the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology.
Today’s podcast starts with a discussion with Dr. Lee about how she created WELI and the mission of this program.
According to the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia’s website, “WELI is dedicated to assisting women in pediatric anesthesiology with gaining skills, knowledge, confidence, and opportunities to achieve their career goals.”
The website further describes WELI as follows: “A key component of this mission is to pair/partner participating women (the mentees) with a volunteer leader in the pediatric anesthesia community. These leaders have a history of faculty mentoring and personal career success, and they work more closely to assist mentees in their specific area of interest.”
As Dr. Lee discussed on today’s podcast, coaches and mentees take part in bi-annual skills workshops led by executive coaches with sessions dedicated to achieving success in academic medicine.

Dr. Lee’s enthusiasm for her work with both WELI and her career in academic medicine is contagious! I highly encourage everyone to listen to today’s episode. You can listen through the podcast player above or as part of our podcast homepage.
