Listen now:

Dr. Morahan

Page S. Morahan, PhD, is our guest on the Faculty Factory Podcast this week. She joins us for a great conversation on the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) program, and much more.

Dr. Morahan is the founding director of ELAM and co-director of the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) Institutes. In addition, she is a tenured professor in microbiology and immunology at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia.

In the opening minute of our podcast, Dr. Morahan refers to podcasting as an innovative/new area of scholarship. She has been very interested in broadening the view of scholarship as part of her illustrious career.

“ELAM is now 25 years old,” Dr. Morahan said. “The goal (of ELAM) is to advance the number of women in leadership positions in medical, dental, public health, pharmacy, and other health profession schools– in addition to NIH and other health-related organizations.”

Dr. Morahan also told us it’s not enough to just increase the number of women for gender equity, ELAM’s goal is to also sustain that leadership.

The importance of applied scholarship was a theme of our discussion, and one of Dr. Morahan’s key takeaways. It’s all part of her lifelong dream of broadening scholarship.
