Today’s new episode of the Faculty Factory podcast is an interview with David A. Rogers, M.D., M.H.P.E.

Dr. Rogers is a professor in the Departments of Surgery, Medical Education and Pediatrics, and he’s the Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development in the School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He was also recently named Chief Wellness Officer.

As those of you who are already familiar with this podcast know, it’s safe to say that no two journeys towards a career in faculty development are alike.

The theme of different twists and turns leading to a career in this field is once again explored in our interview. Dr Rogers’ path to a career in faculty development was something he could have never predicted.

Dr. Rogers offers insight into a variety of issues in faculty development, including mentorships. We discuss the issues that arise when someone isn’t being proactive with their responsibilities as a mentee. We also chat about the importance of a mentee-driven mentorship.

“If someone’s agreed to be your mentor, you’ve just got a gift and you need to treat that gift with respect,” he said.
